Emma Birchley

Emma Birchley is East of England Correspondent for Sky News, based in Suffolk.
 
She first joined the team in 2002 as a News Reporter and has covered many major breaking stories.
 
Emma was in the thick of the action as riot police moved in to evict travellers from Dale Farm in Essex and reported from the student fee riots in Parliament Square. She was first on the scene of the London car bombs, reported extensively on the Ipswich murders as well as the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes in the aftermath of the 7/7 terror attacks.
 
Emma was also among the crowds in Whitehall for the Royal wedding and has travelled to Kazakhstan for Sky News.
 
Emma’s career began as a runner at Eastern Counties Newspapers before being taken on as a trainee reporter in 1996. She went on to work for the Great Yarmouth Mercury as well as the Evening News and Eastern Daily Press in Norwich.
 
Two years later, Emma moved to Anglia News, first as a producer and then as a reporter based in Cambridge. Her career has also seen her working at GMTV and Five News.
 
Emma studied English and History at Goldsmiths College, London University. She is married with two daughters.
