Sophy Ridge is Political Correspondent for Sky News and works predominantly on the channel's Sunrise programme. Since joining Sky News, Sophy has covered a broad range of political stories, from the NHS reforms to the arrival of a cat at Downing Street, and gained recognition for her round-the-clock broadcasting at the annual party conferences and during the closure of the News of the World.
Sophy regularly contributes to the Boulton & Co blog, Twitter and Skynews.com. She recently launched her own blog, Waste Watch, and was named as the top-rated female political blogger in the Total Politics Blog Awards 2011.
A former graduate trainee at the News of the World, Sophy worked with the paper’s political team in Westminster. A multi award-winning journalist, she gained recognition for spearheading the newspaper’s online coverage of the 2010 general election. Her exclusive stories include an undercover sting on MEP Tom Wise which led to a jail sentence for fraudulent expenses and an exposé on Lib Dem Chief Executive Chris Rennard’s second home claims which forced him to quit.
2012 saw Sophy awarded a Gold Award in the MHP Top 30 under 30 awards, singled out for her engaging political broadcasting, her excellent use of social media and her ability to 'even keep Adam Boulton on his toes.'
Sophy graduated from Oxford University in 2006 with a degree in English Literature and enjoys reading novels in her spare time.
