Simon Newton

Since joining Sky News in 2008, reporter Simon Newton has covered a range of domestic and foreign stories including the Ash Cloud crisis; the trial of Milly Dowler’s killer Levi Bellfield; the phone hacking scandal and numerous protests across the capital.  
 
Based in London, he was one of the first reporters to arrive in Tottenham as violence erupted in the summer of 2011 and spent the next four nights covering the rioting. As well as Sky News he reported on the riots for Australian and US TV. Simon also covered the death of Amy Winehouse and designer Alexander McQueen; the Dale Farm eviction; and recently the St Paul’s Cathedral occupation.
 
Before joining Sky, Simon spent six years as a reporter and video journalist with ITV Anglia, most notably covering the Ipswich Murders and interviewing one of the victims, Paula Clennell, just days before she was killed. His work on the story earned him several awards, including ITV Regional Reporter of the Year.  
 
Simon began his career in print as a newspaper reporter in the Midlands, later joining the Cambridge Evening News as deputy news editor before moving into television.  
 
A keen rower and cyclist, he grew up in the Middle East and once busked through Europe. He lives in Surrey with his family.
